Then more importantly, on the first day of this years Children’s Week I finished up the What A Long, Strange Trip It’s Been achievement and got my pretty new Violet Proto-Drake! 3 years for one achievement… awesome!

No Horseman Mount for Nexian

Sunday, November 1st, 2009
Poor Nex.

Poor Nex.

Ah poor Nex.

We farmed that darn Headless Horseman every single night, many many times, during Hallow’s End.

Still, the Horseman’s mount didn’t drop.

Around 100 kills on that Horseman all in total (give or take a bit).

Blah.

Maybe next year.

Level a New DK During Hallow’s End

Ant - My New DK

Ant - My New DK

So I decided to make a new Death Knight. I wasn’t really excited about my other one and hadn’t played it much, so I made a new one.

There are few better times to make a new Death Knight than Hallow’s End. The only two yearly events that are comparable are during Midsummer and the Lunar Festival.

The reason that Hallow’s End (and those other 2) is so awesome is that it sends you all over the world getting treats from the inns. Each time you get a treat, you get XP. About 6500 XP for a new Death Knight. This is easy because DK’s start with nearly all the flight paths in Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.

So you’ve got a brand new level 58 Death Knight, why not just go to Hellfire Peninsula and start questing? Well, cause it’s frustrating.

As a new DK, the gear you get is pretty great and there are only a couple of pieces in Hellfire that are any sort of upgrade at all. Doing a World Event lets you skip some of that frustration, get plenty of XP, get some new achievements, and then head in to Hellfire when it’s all over and pick and choose only the quests you want to do.

After that, you can head into Zangarmarsh where you will find more gear upgrade options.

The other reason I wanted to do this during a World Event is because DK’s come with zero professions and it SUCKS like you wouldn’t believe to go directly to Hellfire and realize you can’t mine, can’t skin, can’t herb, can’t fish, can’t cook… nothing. Cause you have 1 point of skill in your new professions.

You’ve got to go back to Azeroth to get professions leveled up ANYWAY, so why not get XP for an event while you’re doing it? (more…)

Farming the Headless Horseman – Four Down

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

So last night we went back to the Monastery and had some better luck. We brought along a level 74 guild member for 2 of the runs and he was very happy to get a few things in there.

Denaiden got her Squashling and Helm, so she just needs to do her G.N.E.R.D.’s Battleground kills. She also got a laughing helm, which means she and Berengaria are going to be laughing hysterically with their helms all over the world!

Berengaria got a sword drop off the Horseman, and decided it was not thought out very well that the helm and sword don’t match (one glows green, the other orange). I insisted it’s because they came from a male.

Finally, at the end of the night, Berengaria was put out of her torment and given a toothpick from an innkeeper! As that was the last thing she needed to get, Berengaria the Hallowed is now quite happy with the inns again and considering future stays.

On the flip side – no Horseman horse yet.

Farming the Headless Horseman – Two Down

Headless #6 in Progress

Headless #6 in Progress

My core 80 group of <Family Ties> guildies on the Velen server is currently farming the Headless Horseman.

We’re living in the Scarlet Monastery Graveyard every night. We’re killing him at least 7 times (swapping out 2 extra 80’s to get more chances) a night.

We’ve totally become obsessed with this guy!

Last night Nexian managed to get the last thing he needed for the achievement and now has ‘The Hallowed‘ title before his name :)

I got mine a couple of days ago, and Berengaria is very close to getting hers (she’s just waiting for an innkeeper to quit tricking her and give her a toothpick!).

Downing the Horseman.

Downing the Horseman.

Of course, we’re mostly farming him so that everyone gets the Hallowed Helm and Sinister Squashling – but Nexian has been wanting to get the Headless Horseman mount since last year and we’re going to give it to him if it drops.

You’ll see a few photos from my vantage point in this post. The glowing bodies laying around are the different Headless Horsemen bodies as we continue re-summoning him and killing him over and over.

We are, however, quite sick of getting rings.

The rings have dropped so many times that we’re just starting to hold one of each so it doesn’t even ask us if we want it anymore. It’s getting old, really quick.

6 body counts.

6 body counts.

Obviously they need to give the Headless Horseman more loot. The fact that we could get the same ring drop 3 or 4 of 7 times in one night is too high a drop rate.

How many fingers exactly do they think people have?

On the flip side, most of us have permanent flying broomsticks now even if the actual horse has yet to drop.

Berengaria got The Horseman’s Horrific Helm last night and simply couldn’t stop herself from using the laugh it gives every few minutes.

It was really cute, the first dozen times :P

We’ll see how it goes tonight, maybe Nexian will have some luck with that drop!
